Parent Guidance

When your child is struggling, it can be difficult to know what you are seeing — or what to do about it.

Perhaps reading and homework have become a source of tension. Perhaps your child is losing confidence, avoiding tasks they find difficult, or simply seems to learn differently from their peers.

Parent guidance provides a space to step back, talk through what is happening and develop a clearer understanding of your child's needs.

My background in psychology, education and play therapy allows me to look at both the learning and the child behind the learning, while keeping the focus on practical support for everyday life.

What might we talk about?

Parent consultations may include:

  • understanding your child's learning needs

  • discussing concerns about reading, writing or English

  • making sense of patterns you are noticing at home

  • supporting confidence and motivation

  • managing difficulties around homework and learning

  • finding practical strategies to use at home

  • thinking about how to communicate with your child's school

  • considering whether further assessment or specialist support may be helpful

What does a 45-minute consultation look like?

A parent consultation is a conversation focused on your concerns and your child.

We begin with what you are noticing and what prompted you to seek support. From there, we can explore the bigger picture and think together about practical ways forward.

Sometimes the most helpful thing is gaining a clearer understanding of why your child may be struggling. At other times, we may focus on specific strategies, routines or ways of responding that you can try at home.

The goal is for you to leave with greater understanding, practical ideas and a clearer sense of what your child needs next.
